European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Released a New Guideline for Atrial Fibrillation
A new guideline for atrial fibrillation (AF) treatment options is published in the European Heart Journal by ESC and presented in the virtual ESC Congress. The guideline recommends Atrial Fibrillation Better Care (ABC). The first pillar of the ABC pathway is to avoid stroke through anticoagulation. It is said that the first step is to identify low-risk patients by a CHA2DS2-VASc score of 0 in men or 1 in women, then offer anticoagulation to the others after bleeding risk is assessed, preferably by the HAS-BLED score.
